What Are Inlays & Onlays
When repairing tooth decay, wear, or injury, modern dentistry offers many options. inlays are custom designed porcelain fillings, precisely matched to your tooth and bonded permanently in place by your dentist. They can be used to repair teeth damaged by decay or injury. Since less of your tooth is removed in the process, an inlay can be more comfortable than placing dental crowns.
Onlays are similar to inlays, in that they are custom-designed porcelain. An onlay replaces one or more of the chewing cusps as well as any other areas in need of restoration. You may have heard onlays referred to as 'partial crowns.
